Perry was born in Chicago to actors Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. On the ABC sitcom Roseanne (in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. But her parents would not let her perform until she became an adult, for fear of how stress can impact on their daughter. Perry was shy in high-school and didn't act. The actress began her acting career at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred to the university from Boston University. When she graduated, Perry moved back to New York to search for jobs on television, landing a couple of small parts in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led her back to California which is where she discovered theatre work. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway together with her mom. She also appeared alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. In the year 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes on ABC's drama The Family. In 2017 she had her own recurring part on her own ABC political thriller Scandal starring her father. Also in 2017, she appeared as a child-like model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) as her mother as a young version. The character was assigned to her through audition, even though she has a family tie to the character.
